I am coming in from out of town. Where should I stay?

There are several affordable hotels and airbnb’s in Anchorage that are walking distance to the Dena’ina Center, we encourage our guests to book early for their stay in Anchorage.

What is the cost for attendance of this event?

This is a FREE event with a goal of engaging Alaska Stakeholders in courageous conversations about Alaska’s reading performance and how to move the needle on student outcomes.

Who should attend the Science of Reading Symposium?

This three-day event is open to educators, administrators, school board legislators, community leaders, tribal leaders, parents, and anyone interested in a cohesive understanding of the science of reading.

Where is the symposium located?

The event will be held April 19-April 21, 2024 at Dena’ina Civic Convention Center in downtown Anchorage, Alaska.

Where can I park?

The Dena’ina Civic Convention Center is located at 600 W 7th Ave in the heart of downtown Anchorage with walkable paid parking available within a two-block radius. Popular parking locations include:

There is also limited meter street parking on streets surrounding the Dena’ina Civic Convention Center.

Will food be provided at the event?

Yes! The Symposium will provide the following food services: Friday, April 19th Lunch Buffet Plated Dinner Saturday, April 20th Breakfast Buffet Lunch Buffet Evening drinks and appetizers Sunday, April 21st Breakfast Buffet Lunch Buffet All food will include a vegan and gluten free option. Outside of the food provided, downtown Anchorage has a number of dining options that are all walkable distance from the Dena’ina including:

Can I attend the symposium if I did not pre-register?

All symposium attendees must pre-register to ensure adequate seating, materials, and food. Registration will close on Saturday, April 14th or when the symposium hosts have determined maximum capacity has been reached.

What is there to do in Anchorage outside of the symposium?

Anchorage is full of fun and exciting activities. Downtown has several local artistry gallery’s, coffee shops, dining, breweries and more. Additionally, you can take in breathtaking views while walking along the Tony Knowles Costal Trail, or get a taste of the city with an Anchorage Trolly Tour.

Is continuing education credit available?

Yes, credit will be available. Details will be available at the symposium.

What is the goal of the Science of Reading Symposium?
Our goal is to empower Alaskan educators to connect understanding of reading science to classroom and leadership practices, resulting in increased reading proficiency for students.
I'm already registered for the in-person symposium. May I also register for the virtual event?

No. Symposium attendees who are already registered for the in-person symposium may not register for the virtual event without relinquishing their seats for the live event in Anchorage.

Can I pre-register for breakout sessions?

Breakout sessions are available on a first come first serve basis, make sure to get to your room early in order to reserve your seat!
