I am coming in from out of town. Where should I stay?
There are several affordable hotels and airbnb’s in Anchorage that are walking distance to the Egan Center, we encourage our guests to book early for their stay in Anchorage.

What is the cost for attendance of this event?
This is a FREE event with a goal of engaging Alaska Stakeholders in courageous conversations about Alaska’s reading performance and how to move the needle on student outcomes.
Who should attend the Science of Reading Symposium?
This three-day event is open to educators, administrators, school board legislators, community leaders, tribal leaders, parents, and anyone interested in a cohesive understanding of the science of reading.
Are Covid vaccinations required at the Science of Reading Symposium?
This is a COVID conscious event following the State of Alaska Covid-19 recommendations. For the health and safety of those attending the event, we highly encourage everyone coming to the symposium to come fully vaccinated. Those that are not vaccinated will be encouraged to wear a mask.

Where is the symposium located?
Where can I park?
The Egan Center is located at 555 W. Fifth Avenue in the heart of downtown Anchorage with walkable paid parking available within a two-block radius. Popular parking locations include:

5th & B Street Parking Garage: 420 B St, Anchorage, AK 99501
6th & H Street Parking Garage: 700 W 6th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501

There is also limited meter street parking on streets surrounding the Egan Center.
Will food be provided at the event?
Yes! The Symposium will provide the following food services:

Can I attend the symposium if I did not pre-register?
All symposium attendees must pre-register to ensure adequate seating, materials, and food. Registration will close on Saturday, April 14th or when the symposium hosts have determined maximum capacity has been reached.
What is there to do in Anchorage outside of the symposium?
Anchorage is full of fun and exciting activities. Downtown has several local artistry gallery’s, coffee shops, dining, breweries and more. Additionally, you can take in breathtaking views while walking along the Tony Knowles Costal Trail, or get a taste of the city with an Anchorage Trolly Tour.
Is continuing education credit available?
Yes, credit will be available. Details will be available at the symposium.
What is the goal of the Science of Reading Symposium?
I'm already registered for the in-person symposium. May I also register for the virtual event?
No. Symposium attendees who are already registered for the in-person symposium may not register for the virtual event without relinquishing their seats for the live event in Anchorage.
Can I pre-register for breakout sessions?
Breakout sessions are available on a first come first serve basis, make sure to get to your room early in order to reserve your seat!
